Senate Confirms Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, Champion of Equal Justice Under the Law, to D.C. Circuit Appeals Court

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, a former public defender, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Just Democracy Spokesperson and Founder of Truth & Conciliation Rev. Dr. Stephany Spaulding responded to the news:

“Judge Jackson’s confirmation to the D.C. Circuit’s Court of Appeals is promising news for our country’s marginalized people, who Judge Jackson has spent her career defending from a legal system that has never been just.

With the Trump administration having stacked more than 200 extremist, ultra-conservative judges to lifetime positions on the Federal bench, our democracy is under constant attack—from actors within and outside of our judicial system. It’s more important than ever that today’s lawmakers urgently fill our courts’ vacancies with fair-minded defenders of our democracy’s most vulnerable people, and Judge Jackson is exactly the kind of arbiter of justice our democracy needs.”
