“We the People” must include every single American.
Just Democracy is a coalition of grassroots racial justice groups and social justice groups from across the country calling for structural change to our democracy, starting at its foundation.
“We the people” must include every single American. That means dismantling the systems that preserve white supremacy and silence Black and Brown people.
We are at the vanguard of the change America needs most – from policing and the justice system to gun violence, health care, economic inequality, education and climate change.
To make real change on the issues that matter most, we need a truly just democracy where our voices matter equally.
There are structural barriers in our democracy that block the will of the people. It’s past time for Black and Brown voices to finally be heard. In order to build a more equitable democracy we need big bold reforms to change the rules
We start by calling for eliminating the filibuster, abolishing the electoral college, reforming the Supreme Court, and passing D.C. statehood. The American government does not look like the will of the people, and neither does its policies.
We need our institutions to represent us, and that starts by reforming our democratic systems to ensure people of color have a seat at the table.
Democracy reform is the bedrock of justice.
Without it, we will continue to nibble at the edges of progress. Our hands will be tied as long as the rules of the game are tilted against us. To build a truly inclusive and free America, we have to rebuild American democracy from its foundation.
Just Democracy will advocate for the structural changes we desperately need to rebuild America’s foundation to ensure that “we the people” truly includes every one of us.
