Eliminate Jim Crow Filibuster to Pass New Voting Rights Legislation
“President Biden has a mandate from Black and Brown voters to use the full power of his office to lead the Senate to remove the Jim Crow filibuster as a roadblock”
“He did it for roads and bridges — he must do it for our most sacred democratic right.”
Washington, D.C. — Today, Just Democracy released the below statement after Senate Democrats introduced new compromise legislation to protect voting rights, ban partisan gerrymandering, and further protect our democracy. Today’s news comes only a few weeks after tens of thousands of marchers joined the Just Democracy coalition and other partners at the March On for Voting Rights to call for Congressional action.
Rev. Dr. Stephany Spaulding, Just Democracy Spokesperson and Founder of Truth and Conciliation, issued the following statement in response:
"The introduction of a compromise bill is a critical step toward passing legislation that helps stop the state-by-state assault on voting rights targeting Black and Brown Americans. President Biden has a mandate from Black and Brown voters to use the full power of his office to lead the Senate to remove the Jim Crow filibuster as a roadblock. He did it for roads and bridges — he must do it for our most sacred democratic right.”
